Award-Winning Year Culminates in GCSE Success for Queen Margaret’s

Today’s excellent GCSE results are the cherry on top of an award-winning year for York school Queen Margaret’s. The all-girls school is the current ‘Small Independent School of the Year’ title holder in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards, and today staff and students are celebrating again after 54% of all GCSE entries were at grade 9-7 (the equivalent of A*-A in the former grading system). Nearly 70% of students scored at least one grade 9 or 8. The school’s all-important STEM subjects have recorded particularly impressive results; 96% of entries in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science achieved grade 9-7.

The school’s new Head, Nicola Dudley is delighted with today’s outcome; “The nature of our small school means girls get individual attention, they don’t get lost in the crowd, and they can achieve results which surpass what might be possible in a different school environment. Today’s GCSE results have provided our students with an exceptional foundation for continued success in QM’s Sixth Form.”

Local student Amanda achieved a straight set of Grade 9s in her GCSEs, she said “I am so happy with my results and I am really grateful for the amazing support the teachers at QM have given me throughout the last two years whilst studying for my GCSEs. I am looking forward to beginning A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Geography at QM in September.”

Year 11 students will now go on to study in QM’s Sixth Form, which has enjoyed its own award recognition this year, after being named as a national finalist in the ‘Awesome Sixth Form’ category of the Muddy Stilettos Best Schools Awards 2024. Sixth Formers will choose from a huge range of A Level and BTEC courses and all have their own Personal Tutor to help them build on their fantastic achievements in their GCSEs today.
