A Level Achievers: QM Students Secure Life-Changing Worldwide University Places

Students at Queen Margaret’s School for Girls are heading across the globe after achieving the A Level results they need for some life-changing degree courses today. The all-girls school in York has once again upheld its track record for excellent results with 66% of all students achieving an A* or A and 89% of all girls gaining an A*-B grade.

Beyond the impressive statistics is a cohort of students who have worked hard and have made the most of one-to-one support from their Personal Tutors at QM. They are now embarking on an incredible array of courses all over the world; Sixth Former Lucy is headed stateside to study Marine Biology and Geological and Biological Oceanography at Eckerd College Florida; Freya has secured a spot at Queen’s University Belfast to study Biological Sciences; and Christina will be in Darmstadt, Germany for her Apprenticeship in Biology.

Local student and Deputy Head Girl Lucinda has secured a place at the prestigious and highly selective Royal College of Music, London. QM’s Music results this year were particularly exceptional, with 100% of students achieving A* and A grades. Art Prefect Lydia will also be in London, at the Condé Nast College of Fashion to study Fashion Communication and Industry Practice, while Head Girl Harriette will study a Combined Honours degree in Social Sciences at Durham University.

Other degree courses closer to home further demonstrate QM girls’ very individual talents with places for Criminology, Neuroscience, Human Nutrition, Fine Art and Photography all secured at some of the country’s leading universities.

As these students begin their next chapter, so too does the school itself; QM will welcome Nicola Dudley as its new Head in September. After seeing today’s results, Nicola said “Since my very first visit to QM I’ve been struck by the nurturing community and level of individual support the girls receive here. The results they have achieved today, and the wonderful array of unique courses they will go on to study, show that QM girls leave as confident young women, empowered to go out into the world and pursue their passions.”

Nicola Dudley succeeds Sue Baillie, who leaves QM after five years at the helm to take up the Headship at another esteemed all-girls school in the south. Sue congratulated the QM students collecting their results today; “I’m so proud of everything the Upper Sixth girls have achieved this year. They have received a fabulous set of results today and move on to the next stage of their studies with bright futures in front of them. They have also demonstrated that it is possible to be kind, courageous and successful young women who are well prepared for the road ahead.”
