'World's Toughest Row' for Old Margaretian

OM to Row Across the Atlantic Ocean

QM is proud to support Old Margaretian, Georgie Leech, as she takes on the challenge of a lifetime by attempting to row 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean.

On 12 December, Old Margaretian, Georgie Leech, will take on the challenge of a lifetime by attempting to row 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean. From La Gomera in the Canary Islands to English Harbour in Antigua, Georgie will be joined by her fellow teammates, Flo Ward and Hannah Walton. Together the trio are aiming to break not one but two world records; to become the fastest and youngest female trio to complete the gruelling journey. They are tackling the challenge in order to raise money for two charities close to their hearts – Women in Sport and Rowing Together for Healthy Minds.

Queen Margaret’s has pledged its support by donating funds for a satellite phone – a vital piece of equipment for the team who will be unsupported and powered solely by their own will and determination. The team have to set off with everything they need for the journey which they estimate will take 45 days; they will each row for 12 hours a day – two hours on, two hours off – in their boat, lovingly named Dolly Parton.

We’ll be following Georgie and her fellow rowers closely on their journey and can’t wait to catch up with her on her return. She is a shining example of what QM girls can achieve when they follow their passions – good luck Georgie!
