On the very first Friday back after the Easter Holidays, our Music Department and students hosted a fabulous evening of musical entertainment.
Following a busy day (and week) of rehearsals, the girls rose to the occasion and the night was one of great variety and talent; featuring small ensembles, large groups, and a solo performance from the 2023 QM Young Musician of the Year Lucinda (LVI).
Parents, students, and staff were taken on a musical tour of the globe, with styles from all around the world.
Head Girl Megan (UVI) gave a wonderful solo performance accompanied by the wind band, while the string ensemble and full orchestra also delighted with varied performances, including a spirited (and costumed) encore of music from Pirates of the Caribbean. The percussion group certainly 'cleaned up' with a Stomp-inspired performance featuring broomsticks and drums, while QM's funk and soul band The Lost Sock got everyone foot-tapping with the soul classic September.
QM's vocal talents were clearly on display courtesy of the Cantiamo Junior Choir and Chamber Choir. The Sixth Form Barbershop Quartet also gave a brilliant performance that certainly brought laughs and smiles to the audience.
It was a wonderful evening of musical talent, representative of all the hard work and dedication given by both the students and the music department.
“The students and department are still on such a high this week, following the Summer Concert last Friday.
Megan's performance marked her last concert with us after 7 years of service as a Music Scholar, and it was equally bittersweet to celebrate their last whole school concert with all our UVI musicians.
We are so lucky to have our fantastic team of Visiting Music Teachers, alongside Ms Kornas and Mr Reeve who really pulled together to support the girls in the event. A final thanks must, once again, go to the support from our parents - concerts are not concerts without an attentive audience so thank you for making it such a special evening for us all.” - Dr Samantha Horseman
