NETBALL: Mavericks A vs Read School Ladies
Score: 28-21 win
Player of the Match: Bonnie (UVI), Coach's player: Eve (V)
Starting out a little slow due to the cold weather, QM took their time to get into the swing of the game, however, they managed to take the lead from the first quarter. After a tight third quarter with only two in it, QM stepped up their game, managing to command a 7-goal lead by the final whistle.
Netball 2nd v HLC
Score: 19-8 loss
Player of the Match: Charlotte (UVI)
Score: 19-8 loss
This was a game of two halves for QM, starting out very close to HLC, keeping the score within 3 goals and showing some lovely through-court play. Unfortunately, injury and the cold weather impacted the game letting HLC pull away.
Netball U15 v HLC
Score: 34-2 loss
Player of the Match: Hattie (IV)
The team arrived to court and immediately started on their warm-up to ward off the cold conditions. QM started slow and struggled to get the ball into our shooting circle. Despite HLC winning the quarters, QM kept working as a team, offering suggestions and support during the team talks.
Netball U14 v HLC
Score: 16-15
Player of the Match: Poppy (III)
The U14's fought well through this match and it was a close game throughout, with both teams showing a genuine desire to succeed. With a slightly different lineup and some players getting an opportunity in various positions, it was fantastic to see them all play with such positive attitudes, adapting to the changes extremely well and playing well as a team. All players should be incredibly proud of their performances.
Netball U13 v HLC
Score: 22-6 loss
Player of the Match: Sadie (II)
Netball U12 v HLC
Score: 19-8 loss
Player of the Match: Maddie (I)
QM started well, going ahead after the first quarter. There was some good passing and movement in the goal thirds, and exceptional interceptions by defenders Evie and Akosua in the goal circle. However, HLC made some positional changes, stepping up a gear to win the game.
Monday 27th February 2023
U12 v Millthorpe
Score: Win 13-1
Player of the Match: Louise (I)
A brilliant team effort by the U12s with some fantastic interceptions in defence and feeds into the shooting circle; though we know we still need to work on getting in front of our players.
U13 v Millthorpe
Score: 8-8
Player of the Match: Grace (II)
A positive performance by the whole team, who showed their versatility across different positions in this match. QM took the lead, but Milltorpe returned it to a close game. It was then neck and neck throughout with both teams showing improved skills throughout. QM's transition through the centre court was excellent and there was great work from both attack and defence.
Tuesday 28th February 2023
U14B Netball v The Mount
Score: 9-16 loss
Player of the Match: Anabelle (III)
It was a cold and rainy match held at QM. Despite this, there was some lovely Netball on play with a close first half. Anabelle was showing lovely movement in the circle to create goals, and everyone was working hard to get the interceptions in defence.
Mavericks B v Sherburn Flyers
Score: 38-28 loss
We had a really good first quarter, being only eight goals down. Halfway through the second quarter, the other team lost a player due to injury giving us a better chance. Going into the third quarter, Harriet and Darcy were doing some amazing shooting, but we were still bearing a loss. We all fought hard to the end, not letting the score get to us. A great team effort.
Mavericks A vs York City Cannons
Score: 49-20 win
After the tough defeat last week, Mavericks A was raring to go in the penultimate fixture. With a strong first quarter, going ahead 17-5, we needed to keep the momentum going for the next three quarters and win the game. After a stuttering second quarter, our half-time team talk was: "We've got this!"... and we did get it! Well done Mavs A.
Wednesday 1st March 2023
Seniors Netball 1sts v Hymers
Score: 35-27 loss
Player of the Match: Jen (LVI)
We started off positive, working well together but still getting our bearings. The opposition had a powerful attack which posed a strong challenge to our defence. Fortunately, we had some great interceptions and teamwork from the back which was carried throughout each quarter.
The second quarter left us a bit behind and our performance became slightly messy. Past half time, we cleared up our act and began to play to our strengths; scoring more goals to close the gap. This resulted in us winning the third quarter. Everyone fought really hard but unfortunately, we lost in the end.
Seniors Netball 2nds v Hymers
Score: loss
POM: Kitty
Despite our defeat, we all worked hard. In the first half, we lost some possession and began to drop our heads. After a constructive halftime talk, we went back out and fought again, this time making ground in the D. From not having worked together in a match before, everyone did very well.
Omnikin Tournament
On Wednesday evening a highly competitive and closely contested Ominkin tournament took place in the Sports Hall. It was incredibly close, literally going down to the final seconds of play. It is wonderful to hear the positivity and excitement from this event and we are hoping for another contest very soon.
Sports and Physical Education Enrichment
At QM, we have a huge range of enrichment activities for sports and physical education. From lacrosse to hockey, netball, running club, football, swimming, lifeguarding, and much more.

Upcoming Fixtures
It is a busy weekend coming for the Sports Department with the U12s and U14s having an early start tomorrow morning as they head to Moreton Hall, Shropshire, for the North School lacrosse tournament, and the U13 Netball teams competing in the Y&D Netball tournament at 9am. Good luck to all players.
For those not involved in fixtures, there will be an opportunity to play some badminton and the cardio suite will also be open this weekend.
We encourage girls to continue to attend their weekly training sessions especially with tournaments just around the corner, but also as the nights are becoming lighter to make use of the opportunities on offer to them.
