U14 Hockey Y & D Tournament

Score: Won Overall

Player of the Match:

After brushing the cobwebs off their Hockey sticks, the U14s had a fantastic end to their season at the York & District Hockey Tournament.

The team rose to the challenge and only got better as the day went on. They managed some fantastic goals and passed well throughout the pitch with some positional changes for a few players.

A total of 13 goals were scored against 4 different teams, with some first-time appearances on the score sheet such as Ruby (III) and Amelie (III), and also some gorgeous reverse stick shots by captain Francesca (III).

A big thank you must go to our fantastic parents who have been out in rain, wind or shine over the past term and a bit, supporting our Hockey teams including the Blythes, Rialls and Bensons who bring greatly appreciated morale!

Well done to the girls this season and I am excited to see them back next year.

Mavericks A vs Royal Femails 2nd

Score: Won 47-44

Player of the Match: Miss Kirkup

Based on their previous encounter, Mavericks A knew it would be another competitive game, and at half time the score was tied 23-23.

With a nervous restart to the third quarter by both teams, it was anyone’s game. Fortunately, Lady Luck was favouring the A team who finished the quarter 35-32 up, setting up a nail-biter of a final quarter.

Mavericks held their nerve and the lead to win the game. A massive effort from the whole team with some superb attacking and defensive play.

Seniors 1sts Netball v Scarborough College

Score: Won 28-19

Player of the Match: Kitty (UVI) & Nayama (UVI)

We started quite scrappy in the first quarter which meant we conceded a few goals early on. Despite this, we managed to push forward and get a few goals ourselves.

By the second quarter, we started with a similar number of goals to Scarborough, but we managed to compose ourselves and work together more smoothly. This meant that our defence was more in sync and we had some great saves from Nayama (UVI) and Megan (UVI).

Once we gained our self-confidence, we created a more aggressive attack and had some amazing shooting from Kitty (UVI) and Jen (LVI). This resulted in a great win for the 1st team, despite the absence of several key players!

Seniors 2nd Netball v Scarborough College

Score: Lost 16-8

POM: Lucy and Nusy (LVI)

The 2nds played their first match of the season away at Scarborough college. Alex played well at centre, making some great interceptions, especially from the opposition’s centre pass.

Despite Scarborough’s very tall circle defenders, Alex and I were able to put in some good feeds in the circle, where Mia and Harriette worked really well together and scored some amazing goals.

Nusy (WD) did a great job of holding her player and preventing her from being an option for sideline passes and centre passes. Thanks to Jen, Bonnie and Nayama who helped us out in the circle as we didn't have our full squad.

Overall, we played really well and it was such a close game, even though we lost by half. Great job everybody!

Mavericks V vs Royal Femails 3rd

Score: Lost

Player of the Match: Lucy (LVI) and Nusy (LVI)

We started the game well with some lovely shots by our shooters. The movement up and down the court flowed nicely with some successful feeds into the circle. Our defence was strong, catching all rebounds and interceptions. A brilliant team effort and well done to our new teammates.
