National Careers Week
Published 9th March 2022.
7th - 12th March 2022 is National Careers Week.
To start the week we welcomed one of QM's most prestigious legal alumnae back to the school. The Right Honourable Lady Justice (Dame Eleanor Warwick) King spoke to students about her career in law and went on to give practical advice to students considering a career in law, from the different areas of work, to the types of jobs within the sector.
Dame Eleanor's visit fell the day before International Women's Day and, as well as talking about her successful career progression, she discussed the challenges of navigating a male-dominated environment in a society geared towards traditional gender stereotypes. You can read the full story and watch a recording of Dame Eleanor's talk here - Dame Eleanor visits QM.
Today the Lower Sixth girls had a full morning exploring higher education, potential careers, the UCAS process, gap years, apprenticeships, alternative pathways and the world of work.
As well as educating the QM girls, parents are also being informed about the resources available such as Springpod and TARGETcareers.
Springpod is a free careers platform open to all students aged 14-19. From work experience with top organisations such as Airbus, Deloitte, and Jaguar Land Rover, to degree tasters with leading universities, students can build their experience, explore subject interests and career pathways to help inform them about next steps.
TARGETcareers exists to help school leavers make decisions about their future and has just released its 2022 resources; School Leaver 200 (a guide to to 200 most popular employers for school leavers) and Paths to Careers – a Parent’s Guide.
