Eating Disorder Recovery and Mental Health Campaigner

Hope Virgo Visits QM

By Lauren (Deputy Head Girl -Wellbeing | Year UVI). Published 15th September 2021.

Today we were lucky enough to welcome Hope Virgo to QM. She gave an inspirational and insightful talk to the girls and staff about Eating Disorders and Mental Health. With mental health issues at an all-time high following the pandemic, it felt like an appropriate time to explore this topic further.

Hope Virgo previously suffered from mental health battles such as anorexia. Since her recovery, she has written two books; Stand Tall Little Girl and Hope Through Recovery. She is now a leading keynote speaker on the issues.

Hope gave very good advice on how to best approach any concerns about the mental wellbeing of friends and family, as well as sharing stories from her personal experience. From talking to the girls afterwards, it’s clear that everyone found this extremely helpful and inspiring. We plan to support her campaign in the future and hope this has managed to eradicate some previous stereotypes surrounding the topic.

Hope's visit was very timely as we are extremely proud to announce this week that QM is a finalist in the Student Well-Being category of the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2021.
