Saturday 8th February 2025

Netball – 1st VII vs Ampleforth

Result: 23-19 Win

Player of the Match: Elsa (UVI)

Report:
On Saturday 8th February, the 1st netball team headed to Ampleforth College. We started the match very strongly, giving us a good lead by the end of the first quarter with some great defence and some amazing shots from our attack. As we headed into the second quarter, tensions started to rise, and the play became quite physical. There was some lovely movement through the centre court, turning over a lot of centre passes. Despite not having any substitutes, our team performed brilliantly, maintaining the lead throughout the game and finishing with a winning result of 23-19.

(Harriet Wilson (UVI))

Netball – 2nd VII vs Ampleforth

Result: 31-8 Loss

Player of the Match: Yiting (LVI)

Report:
On Saturday afternoon, we played against Ampleforth College. The first quarter was a bit rocky, with only one goal, but we managed to move some players around, which made all the difference. Despite the score, so much hard work went into the match; there was some amazing defending by Yiting and lots of great play all around. Even though we lost, we fought hard and learned a lot from the experience.

(Amelia Fenwick (UVI))

Netball – U15 vs Ampleforth

Result: 38-8 Loss

Player of the Match: Izzy Anstee (IV)

Report:
On Saturday, we played Ampleforth in netball. We knew it would be a tough match. We started off with Grace and Izzy putting in some great shots. However, as soon as they won possession, they were ahead of the game, getting almost every shot in. It was an unlucky loss, but we hope to come back stronger next time.

(Emily Rycroft (IV))

Netball – U14 vs Ampleforth

Result: 34-5 Loss

Player of the Match: Akosua Effah (III)

Report:
On Saturday, the U14 A Team travelled to Ampleforth to play netball. There were four quarters, each lasting 10 minutes. We were all fairly optimistic going into the match, even though we were set to play in freezing temperatures. The first half was gruelling, but we managed to get some really great interceptions and score a couple of goals.

The second half saw significantly better play, along with warmer weather! Bobble made some amazing leaps to intercept, and our team's passes were a lot tighter and more calculated. Annabel scored an incredible goal from the top of the D as well. Although we tried our hardest, we finished with a 34-5 loss. However, we had a great time!

Netball – U13 vs Ampleforth

Result: 34-5 Loss

Player of the Match: Lola Fawcett (II)

Report:
On Saturday, there were so many positive voices coming from the sidelines, cheering us on. Unfortunately, the scoreline counts goals, not cheering fans, and while we had plenty of the latter, we had not enough of the former. Therefore, despite our team efforts, the final score didn’t go our way.

However, it’s definitely the taking part that matters, not just the winning. Our team put in great effort and showed endless teamwork. There were excellent passes and communication throughout the game, but unfortunately, Ampleforth were stronger. Even though the score wasn’t what we had hoped for, everyone still displayed great sportsmanship and enjoyed the bus ride back home.

(Jasmine Harrison (II))

Whilst we did not win the match, we had good possession of the ball, and everyone marked their opponents well. Lucy and I (Una) scored goals, and it was a fast-paced game. We really enjoyed it.

(Una Adams (II))

Netball – U12 vs Ampleforth

Result: 8-2 Win

Player of the Match: Isolde Fowler (I)

Sunday 9th February 2025

Lacrosse – U13 County Championships

Results:

  • Yorkshire vs Lancashire – Lost
  • Yorkshire vs Cheshire – Lost
  • Yorkshire vs Shropshire – Lost

Players of the Match: Lola (II), Nattida (I)

Report:
We started off by playing against Lancashire. In the first quarter, we all felt quite nervous but gained confidence as play went on. Despite this, Lancashire scored a number of goals, but we did our best to keep possession of the ball. Freya from HLC managed to score a great goal into the bottom left, which gave the team a boost.
Player of the Match: Freya (HLC)

Next up was Shropshire. After the first match, the team was feeling energised. The first quarter was disappointing, and we quickly realised they were strong opposition. This did not stop us from trying our best. In the second quarter, Harriet made some fantastic saves as goalie and sent out some great clears, moving our team towards the opposition's goal. The last half really pushed us, but our defence was strong, did well at keeping the ball away from the goal, and gave us the opportunity to score. As the game was coming to an end, we knew our chances of winning were slim. This did not stop Natida from successfully tossing the ball into the top left corner of their goal.
Player of the Match: Freya (HLC)

Our final match was against Cheshire. By this point, we were starting to feel tired, and the weather was getting worse. However, we did not let that stop us from working hard as a team. We felt we had a chance against this last team, as we were more equal in standards of play. They too had lost both their previous matches. As the whistle blew, Martha confidently took the draw, heading it straight towards the opposition's goal. The Yorkshire attack held strong, giving us a goal from Freya. This ignited our determination. Our defence worked tirelessly and prevented a number of potential goals. Despite this, Cheshire were just a bit bolder in play and defeated us in the end.
Player of the Match: Harriet (HLC)

Overall, it was a brilliant tournament. Everyone remained in good spirits throughout, and the team was tight.
