Sports Message from Mrs Jill Rastall

Good luck to the 1st X Lacrosse team competing at Nationals this weekend

We wish the Senior 1st X Lacrosse team all the very best of luck as they travel to Aldershot this weekend - even more so as they do this during their Leave Out Weekend. The team will face Caterham, St Swithun’s, Claremont Fan Court, St George’s Harpenden, and Rendcomb on the first day of play. This will be a tough section, but I know the girls will play with true QM spirit. The second day will all depend on the outcome of the section placings. Go well, girls, and do the QM badge proud.

Equipment notice for after leave out

Please could all girls in Year I - IV return to school after Leave Out with their tennis equipment should they have any. We will be starting to have a couple of Tennis and fundamental athletic movement lessons before the Easter holidays, so we can start our lessons with a bang when we return for the summer holiday.

Please do not purchase a tennis racket if your daughter does not own one. We have a number in the PE department that can be borrowed for when your daughter has her Tennis lesson during curriculum time. Should you have any questions regarding Tennis rackets, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Mitchell, Head of Racquets, for further guidance and advice.

Upcoming Hockey and Netball

It is a busy final two weeks of the Spring term when we return after Leave Out, with York & District Hockey and Netball tournaments for the younger age groups, and then our very own Senior Invitational Netball Tournament, where we will host 22 teams from across the North for an afternoon of what promises to be some fabulous Netball.

The standard of play will be high as several teams have qualified for the National Schools Finals. The Senior sports dinner in the Wenlock Library will round up the sporting events with an Olympic/Greek theme to celebrate our girls' success this year, before prizes and awards are acknowledged in Mark Reading at the end of term.

Introducing the New Yorkshire Tennis President

A HUGE congratulations to our very own Mrs. Karen Mitchell, who last week was appointed the new Yorkshire Tennis President. A fabulous achievement and such a deserving accolade for a dedicated individual in the Tennis world.

Advance warning!! Parents/Daughters Tennis

We will once again be celebrating sport with our annual parents/daughters tennis tournament in the Summer term, which will run alongside an afternoon of summer sports in a summer fete atmosphere.

This is open to all, so if you haven’t picked up your tennis racket, cricket whites, or rounders bat for some time, there’s plenty of time to prepare yourself for this day in June. Further information is to follow when we return after Easter.

Fixture: U12 Hockey vs Tadcaster Grammar
Score: 3-2 W
POM: Martha W

Report:
In their final hockey match of the year, the U12s had a great game in the lovely sunshine. A big shout-out must go to Phoebe S, who stepped up to be Goal Keeper and made some great saves during the match. Well done to Martha who scored 2 cracking goals and to Faith who got the winner. A lovely match to finish the season on, well done.

Fixture: U14 Netball vs Tranby
Score: 20-10
POM: Sadie H

Report:
This week on Tuesday, Year III had a netball match against Tranby. The game started with the first goal going to them but then quickly won back by QM. We then managed to keep the lead all the way through thanks to some great goals by Izzy, Heidi, Frances, and Immy - enabled by some amazing work up the court by player of the match, Sadie.

There were lots of switches on and off, which allowed everybody an equal turn to play and experience playing in different positions with different people.

It was overall a very fun match but there was room for working on driving forward when receiving sideline passes. However, we still learned a lot and secured a win of 20-10 to QM!

Fixture: 1st & 2nd Netball vs Tranby
Score: 1st - Win. 2nd - Loss.
POM:1st - Elsa (LVI), 2nd - Harriet P (UVI)

On Wednesday afternoon, the 1st and 2nd netball teams travelled to Tranby.

The 2nds had not played together as a team very often and there were some new faces in the team, but despite this, they managed to work together to create a nice flow down the court. They were closely beaten by Tranby, but everybody demonstrated some really nice playing. Player of the Match for the 2nds was Harriette (UVI) who scored some brilliant goals and also switched into a defending role to make some great saves.

The 1sts managed a strong win against Tranby and congratulations to the player of the match Elsa (LVI). The 1sts have been working on different approaches to centre passes recently, so it was great to be able to implement these into some gameplay. Well done to Lulu (LVI) as it was her first match at QM after joining only a few weeks ago and she has slotted right into the team. Some amazing goals were scored by Elsa and Tilly to bring the 1sts to an amazing win!

- Lucy R (UVI)
