Thursday 9th January – Swimming

Tonight was our first swimming match of the year. A huge well done to everyone, especially those for whom it was their first-ever match, and a special mention to this year's captain, Emilia, for all of her hard work confirming the team this week.

Wednesday 8th January – Tennis

Fixture: U18 LTA Youth Schools v St Peter's
Result: Lost 4-2

On Wednesday, one of the coldest days at school, the U18 tennis team played against St Peter's in the National Schools Competition. As it was their home match, St Peter's had booked the bubble at York University so we could play.

The team of Tilly (UVI), Olivia (UVI), Miwa (LVI), and Ildiko (Year IV) all competed in one game of singles and doubles. Tilly and Olivia started off with singles, and Miwa and Ildiko teamed together for doubles. Some very impressive play by all and good quality rallies saw a 2-1 lead by the opposition.

Then in the second round, Miwa completed a convincing win in her singles, and Ildiko went so close with a 6-4 loss. Well played in very chilly conditions, and congratulations to Ildiko for playing in her first tennis match for Queen Margaret's.

Tuesday 7th January – Netball

QM Mavericks A v Haxby Hurricanes

Result: Won 56-48

Next up were QM Mavericks A, who took on Haxby Hurricanes. When these two sides met at the start of the season, the As were outplayed by an established and clinical Haxby.

As both sides took a lead in the first two quarters, it looked like the second half would be a test of nerves and hunger! Mavericks managed to pull ahead by 4 goals after the third quarter. Although an advantage, the A team knew they needed to play with intent and keep possession for another 15 minutes. Fortunately, their nerves held out as they secured the win. Great work, As!

QM Mavericks B v Selby Hurricanes

Result: Won 35-24

Report:
The first of a doubleheader for QM Mavericks saw the B team play their local rivals, Selby Hurricanes. In their previous encounter, Mavericks B won the game convincingly. However, with the score at 4-3 in Selby's favour after the first quarter, it looked set to be an even contest.

With the introduction of 'tactical changes' to the game, the B team switched the shooters midway through the third quarter, giving them an 8-goal lead. Momentum was with Mavericks as they held their nerve to seal the win. Well done, Bs!
