Esteemed Invitation for Grace
Our warmest congratulations to Grace Marwood, Year III who has been invited to join the National Children’s Orchestra (NCO). Here, Grace tells us about her journey…
“Ever since I can remember I have always had a passion for the violin. When I was very young, I would gaze longingly at the violins in Banks Music, so when at school we were offered the opportunity to learn, I signed up that very day. I started playing at the age of seven on a tiny, quarter sized violin. The first orchestra I played in was a local orchestra called Kaleidoscope. There I learnt the foundations to orchestral playing and gained the vital skills that every Violinist needs. At the age of 12, I joined the East Riding Youth Orchestra where I gained experience from a more challenging repertoire and performed at many different venues across Yorkshire. Following this I gained a place in Yorkshire Young Sinfonia last Summer (at QM). I played with the world-famous Violinist, Esther Abrami, and had the opportunity to play informally around Leeds and then perform at a gala concert at Leeds City Hall.
I am currently working towards my Grade 7. Since joining QM in September, there has been a supportive atmosphere in the Music Department, always lots going on: School Orchestra, Strings Group and of course Wednesday@1. Mr Parsonage helped me prepare my pieces and accompanied me to the NCO audition. I am very grateful for all his help. I knew it would be challenging so after gaining a place in the Northerlies Regional Orchestra I was overjoyed. After my first Northerlies rehearsal I received an email inviting me to join the main National Children’s Orchestra, I was ecstatic. I am very excited for my first residential course over Easter in Dorset.”
