Years IV - V (14-16 years) Key Stage 4
The curriculum in Years IV - V for girls aged 14 to 16 years is designed to reflect the increasing independence of learning. With 26 GCSE courses available, there is subject flexibility, encouraging each girl to develop her interests and express her individuality through a breadth of academically rigorous disciplines.
We encourage all girls to study a broad and balanced range of subjects which include the compulsory core subjects of English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Science – either as three separate sciences or a dual award. The majority of girls choose four additional subjects and whilst not compulsory, we advise that this includes at least one language.
Additional subjects include French, Spanish, Latin, Classical Greek, Computer Science, Further Mathematics, Geography, History, Religious Studies, Classical Civilisation, Business, Physical Education, Art and Design, Textiles, Drama, Music, Food Nutrition and Preparation.
Of course, the best way to understand what it's like to study GCSEs at QM is to hear from the girls themselves. Listen as four of our girls share their experiences of GCSEs at QM...
"QM is such a celebration of everyone's individuality" ~ Alex.
Alex is a Flexi-Boarder and enjoyed studying Latin, Spanish, Geography and Textiles at GCSE, as well as being involved in the sports teams.
"It would be very hard to find a school that supports, guides and helps you as much as QM does" ~ Lucinda.
Lucinda is a Day Girl at QM and as well as History, her favourite subject is Music.
"You get to live and learn in an amazing environment" ~ Hattie.
Hattie is a Full Boarder and really enjoyed finding out more about the world around her in her Geography GCSE, she also studied French, Classics and Textiles.
"You can experience so many things at QM that you wouldn't at other schools" ~ Megan.
Megan is a Day Girl and her PE and Biology GCSEs were perfect for her love of sports and finding out about how the human body works. She also studied Spanish, History and Music and is involved in an impressive range of extracurricular activities outside of her academic lessons.
