Riding lessons and livery at Queen Margaret's Riding School

The Queen Margaret's Riding School

The Queen Margaret’s Riding School is ideally located on our campus near Red House. It has recently undergone a significant programme of improvement, including new roofing to the 25 stables and new fencing to the paddocks, and has subsequently been awarded a 5* rating in a council inspection.

Riding School Improvements

The work was done ahead of the arrival of new Proprietor, Claire Rowland. Claire brings with her a wealth of equestrian experience. She has ridden for over 30 years and having achieved her degree in Equine Science and Business Management at Bishop Burton College, she went on to gain her UK Coaching Certificate Level 2 through British Showjumping, ensuring she is expertly qualified to teach the QM girls.

Horse Riding Lessons

The Riding School offers riding lessons to girls of all standards. The lessons cover many disciplines, including Dressage, Showjumping, Cross Country and Gymkhana skills. Groups are small and beginners or nervous riders can be taught individually until they are confident enough to join a group. Hacking takes place on the beautiful adjacent Escrick Park Estate. Lessons can be taken individually (30 minutes), in pairs (40 minutes) or in groups (50 minutes) at a cost of £28 per session and will be scheduled to fit with academic timetables.

Horse Riding School Livery

The Riding School is able to take a small number of horses and ponies as full or working liveries during term time. Full livery is provided at a cost of £100 per week which includes hay, bedding, and a basic feed (any supplements, for example are extra), working livery is £75 per week. Horses are turned out from 08:00 to approximately 16:00 in good weather, and until approximately 14:00 when the weather is more inclement during the winter months. Girls are free to ride their own horses providing their School work and other commitments are up to date and that a member of the Riding School staff is present on the yard. The ménage can be used for girls to ride providing there is not a group lesson taking place (a schedule of these lessons will be available to show when the ménage is booked), however if there is a private lesson taking place in the ménage, it may still be shared by the girls. Hacking is allowed but girls must be accompanied, either by another rider or a friend on foot, and only with parental permission. Girls must wear a hat, a body protector, a high visibility vest and carry a mobile phone when hacking.

Queen Margaret’s Riding School is a separate legal entity from the School but one with which there is close mutual cooperation. For convenience, the cost of lessons is added to your termly account by QM on behalf of the Riding School. The cost of livery is charged directly.

I enjoy the release riding gives me. It's a chance to switch my mind off my studies and just enjoy the moment.
