QM Girls Celebrate on School trip to South Africa

Queen Margaret’s Head, Sue Baillie sang the praises of her Year V students this morning after they received excellent GCSE results; “All of our girls have worked incredibly hard, they have made the most of the individual support they’ve been given by our wonderful teaching staff and they have been rewarded with GCSE results at the highest level. They have the best possible foundation to go on to their Sixth Form studies here at QM.The girls on the trip South Africa can enjoy their 10-day trip of a lifetime knowing their hard work has paid off.”

Four QM girls received their GCSE results in South Africa this morning, where they are currently taking part in a Sports Tour organised by the school. Harriet, Pippa, Olivia and Holly all received news of their grades after landing in Cape Town and the four girls are now celebrating an impressive 83% grades 9-7 between them.

A group of 18 students and three members of the Sports Department from Queen Margaret’s have travelled to South Africa and they have a full schedule of exciting excursions planned including Table Mountain, Robben Island, whale watching, Camps Bay and game drives, as well as sports fixtures against South African schools and clubs. Today’s GCSE PE results at the school - 100% at grade 9-6 - are testament to the quality of the sports provision at Queen Margaret’s.

Pippa’s dad, Colonel Dougie Cochran said “We are absolutely chuffed with Pippa’s GCSE results. Every subject is well above her predicted grades - I would like to thank the brilliant teaching team at QM and pay particular tribute to the hard work and commitment shown by Pippa. We couldn’t be happier! She is in South Africa on the QM Sports Tour, so the celebrations will have to wait until she returns.”

Closer to home, the school’s other Year V students are celebrating too. Ingrid Wilkinson, who achieved nine grade 9s, one grade 8 and one grade 7 is excited to begin her A Level courses in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science at QM’s Sixth Form in September. Emily Powell gained seven grade 9s, two grade 8s, one grade 7, as well as an A* in her Higher Project Qualification. She has chosen to study A Levels in Biology, Business, Spanish and Computer Science next year. The Queen Margaret’s Sixth Form has over 30 different A Level and BTEC courses and all girls have a Personal Tutor to support them. A number of Head’s Awards are available to new students who join the Sixth Form next month.
