Monday 12th September
U13 Hockey v Queen Ethelburga's
Score: 4-3 win
Player of the Match: Grace S
Report: The girls were nervous for the first round of their Cup Competition but managed to keep their cool on the pitch. A big decision was made to move Izzy A from defence into the midfield and it certainly paid off. Izzy managed to score 4 very calm and composed goals which kept us in it and allowed us to get the win in the end, putting the team through to the next round of the competition. Well done U13s!
Tuesday 13th September
U15 Wakefield Girls Prelim Hockey
Score: 7-2 Loss
Player of the Match: Lucy C
Report: This was the U15s first match of the season so we began quite nervously. As we started to find our rhythm we began to communicate really well and work better as a team. This resulted in two goals near the end of the second half, one by Edie O and the other by Harriet E. Both goals came from lovely clearances from the defence through into great space created by the forwards and some early passes from Olivia M set up both girls for some great goals. Unfortunately this wasn't enough to secure a win but it showed what the girls are capable off for the remainder of the season.
Saturday 17th September
U12 & Mixed Juniors Hockey v Scarborough College
Score: 4-0 Loss, 4-0 Loss
Report: Heidi (Year I) writes "Queen Margaret's went to Scarborough to play two matches against Scarborough College. One team was the under 12s and another was the mixed juniors. All of the teams tried very hard and put a lot of effort into these matches. This was the first time that these QM teams had played together. The atmosphere was exciting when we arrived and there was a small crowd around the AstroTurf pitch. During the U12s match, both teams were doing very well, and hard work and perseverance kept the score to a minimum against the Scarborough team who had played together for a number of years already. We really enjoyed having team tea and traveling back together and we are really looking forward to playing again soon.
U14 Hockey v Scarborough College
Score: 3-3 Draw
Player of the Match: Francesca B
Report: Isabel (Year III) writes "For most of the U14 players this was our first time playing a match full pitch against another school and I think everyone played really well. At half time we were down by two goals but everyone worked really hard as a team to get those goals back. At half time we had a discussion on how to improve our game and we implemented those tactics into our play which helped us to draw with Scarborough. We really improved on working as a team and driving into space to receive the passes instead of passing through a defender. As the match went on, and by the end, we had really developed in the way we were playing. It was definitely challenging to begin with as we had not played together as a team for a while and we were being beaten from the beginning. It was also great to see how versatile the players were and how they were able to play out of their usual positions. Overall I think that we played well as a team and I would like to also congratulate Louise B for playing so well in her first hockey match at QM and for playing with the U14s team."
U15 Hockey v Scarborough College
Score: Lost
Player of the Match: Rhiannon C
Report: Olivia (Year IV) writes "In Saturday's match against Scarborough everyone worked so hard, especially our U15 defenders, we may have lost but we put in our very best effort. We really improved from our first match against Wakefield and we were all really resilient and never gave up! Rhiannon really deserved her Player of the Match award, she saved some amazing goals, especially as she was playing with girls from the year above! Well done!"
Tuesday 20th September
1st XI Hockey v Withington
Score: 2-1 Win
Player of the Match: Jennifer F
Report: "The match started off strong with good manoeuvres from the Attack, and the Defence held a strong position. We began to push forward more aggressively and pressured the opposition, especially during free hits and two-man tackles. Because of this Elsa S scored an amazing goal after sprinting down half the pitch. Later on she then scored a penalty flick. We ended the match in high spirits, and we're hungry for the next round."
U13 Netball v Scarborough College
Score: 10-8 Loss
Player of the Match: Evie G
Report: Grace (Year II) writes "On Tuesday the U13 Netball Team went to play a fixture at Scarborough college, We started off a bit wobbly but we definitely improved throughout the game. We lost 10-8 but some amazing goals were scored and everyone can be proud!"
