Fixture: U19 Yorkshire Lacrosse

Report:

A very competitive county champs saw just one Yorkshire U18 team enter this year. Well done to all the players from QM who represented themselves, the school and their county so well. Isabel B, Freya F, Annabelle H, Isabel R, Poppy R, Celia S, Amelie S. The photo shows Elsa and Olivia in their first County lacrosse tournament when they were in 1st year one of them in their last tournament as UVI.

In their last-ever tournament, they captained the team and did a great job too. Both players have come so far since they started lacrosse in 1st Year: Joint school Lacrosse Captains this year, Elsa receiving a number of international caps for Scotland Lacrosse, and Olivia being part of the England Lacrosse regional academy as well as both playing for the county each year and representing North of England alongside all their other sporting commitments.

What a lovely memory to have photos from their first-evers Junior County Tournament to their last-ever Junior County Tournament.

Fixture: QM Mavericks A v Millers Lightning
Score: Won 48–31

Report:
In the second game of the evening, Mavericks A faced up against Millers Lightning. In previous seasons, Millers have always come out on top, so it was a surprise to the A team when they were 29–11 up after two quarters. Despite the opposition bringing on an impact player in the third quarter, the A team held on to seal the win. Fab teamwork!

Fixture: QM Mavericks B v Selby Lightning
Score: Won 50–47
POM: Ruth
Report:
The first of a QM Mavericks doubleheader saw the B team take on Selby Lightning. Earlier in the season, Selby beat the Bs convincingly. After the first half, it looked like Selby would take the win again as they went ahead by six goals. Mavericks B made a couple of positional changes, winning the third quarter by three goals and setting up a tense final quarter. Both teams were evenly matched as the quarter ended in a draw, but the B team’s third-quarter lead meant they were victorious. Brilliant effort!

Sport: Cross Country
Fixture: York Area Cross Country
Result:
QM cross country runners were entered into the Intermediate, Junior, and Year 7 York Area Cross Country Competition. They braved the freezing cold weather. All the girls worked hard and completed their races with huge determination and some great running.

Congratulations to:

  • Emily R, 5th in the Intermediate category, which was super competitive.
  • Emilia R, 11th in the Junior Girls.
  • India T, 19th in the same category.
  • Nattida C in Year 7, who won the Year 7 race with 120 runners racing.

All four girls qualified for the next round in Skipton in December. We wish them the best of luck!

Score: Won 8–4

Report:
Saturday saw four teams play against Harrogate Ladies’ College at home. For so many players, it was their first competitive lacrosse match, and what a great job they did!

We had U12s and U13s with some strong first and second years showing off their new or improved skills. Nattida was Player of the Match for U12s in a great, fun match. U13s saw players continuing to grow from last season, with new faces showing themselves to be competitive and ones to watch. Congratulations to Paris for being Player of the Match for U13s.

An U15/U14 team took on an HLC U15 team in a really good game with end-to-end play. It was a loss for QM, but there was some lovely lacrosse played and a few things to continue working on. There were some great goals, great saves, and brilliant teamwork. Well done to India T for getting Player of the Match.

The 1st team match did not disappoint, although it was very nerve-wracking at times. Due to injury and illness, we needed to call on some younger players to help out, and they did not disappoint. Well done to Harriet, Izzy A, and Sadie for stepping up. A big shout-out to our captains, Elsa and Olivia, who did a great job captaining this team to an 8–4 win. Elsa also umpired the U15 match, and Olivia gave extra support to our U12 team. What a pair of captains!

Big congratulations to Izzy A for getting Player of the Match and to Lilly Rose, who was awarded Coaches’ Player for all her great saves.
