Queen Margaret's Welcomes Forces Families
Queen Margaret's is proud of its long history of welcoming students from families from across the Armed Forces and greatly values the strong relationships we have with these families. We are proud to be a boarding school for military families and know what matters when it comes to choosing a school for students whose parents must travel or live abroad for work. Being a small school, we are a close-knit community with excellent pastoral care, creating an ideal place for girls to thrive both academically and emotionally.
Why is Queen Margaret's Perfect for Military Families?
Military Families Boarding Options
Our boarding houses are staffed by a team of trained and dedicated house staff, who understand the needs of the different age groups; whether that means socialising and taking part in activities in Warwick House (the boarding house for Years I-IV), or being there to offer advice to our UVI who enjoy more independent living in the Cottages.
Dedicated Personal Tutors
If you're looking for boarding schools for military families, QM takes every student's individual needs into account. Each girl has a dedicated Personal Tutor with whom they meet weekly to discuss not just their academic progress but equally as important, their general wellbeing, to help make sure they are happy and settled and making the most of the many opportunities that boarding life brings. In addition, to help show them the ropes, all new starters are paired with a ‘Guardian Angel’ from their year group (or for girls entering Year I, a Guardian Angel from Year II) to offer them that important bond of friendship from day one.
Exciting Weekends
Weekends are full of opportunity; lessons take place on a Saturday morning, sporting fixtures on a Saturday afternoon, and the rest of the time is spent enjoying a range of activities, from high-adrenaline days out - including climbing walls, trampolining or kayaking - to more relaxing craft and pamper evenings, or maybe even taking part in an inter-house MasterChef competition. There is always plenty going on in our thriving and vibrant full-boarding community.
Returning home for Leave Out (exeat) Weekends is not compulsory - we offer students the opportunity to get involved in a full programme of activities here at Escrick Park which has previously included visits to London and Edinburgh. For more information please visit our page all about 'Stay in For Leave Out' (SIFLO).
Keeping In Touch
Having recently invested in our IT provision, communication with parents is easy, wherever in the world you may be posted and we can be very flexible about accommodating family visits to fit around leave during term time.
Queen Margaret's is just 10 minutes drive from York Garrison, less than an hour from Catterick Garrison and RAF Leeming, and 90 minutes from RAF Cranwell. The School provides transport to York Station on Leave Out weekends and holidays, with both London and Edinburgh just two hours away by train.
Queen Margaret's Military Discounts
QM offers very generous discounts on boarding fees to supplement the CEA for children of personnel serving in the Armed Forces - our Admissions Team are on hand to help you at every stage of the admissions process. We also recognise the value that talking to a Forces family with a daughter already at QM would bring and will gladly arrange this for you.
