Luminous at Queen Margaret’s is a Science club run by Year UVI girls currently studying for a Science A level. In these sessions, which are targeted towards girls in the rest of the school, the Year UVI girls supervise fun experiences that others may not get to do in lessons otherwise. Hey also provide explanations as to the science behind the experiment. Previous demonstrations have included baking soda rockets, pH rainbows, making fireworks (and fire extinguishers!) and creating slime. Most of the experiments are also turned into competitions with confectionary prizes.
Running every Tuesday evening, the club allows for many years groups to be involved and have the opportunity to meet and work with lots of girls within the School. For the Year UVI girls, it is an opportunity to practice their organisation, management and teaching skills and can make a very welcome addition to UCAS applications for university.
