Weekly Fixtures

Saturday 20th May 2023

TENNIS: Seniors vs Ampleforth

Score:

  • U15: Won 6-3
  • U14: Loss 5-4

Our home fixture on Saturday was against Ampleforth in the Senior U15 and U14 age groups. There were some tough long games which do not always reflect in the overall results.

Well done to the U15 team who won 6-3, and thank you to those who stepped in at the last minute with girls missing due to the Duke of Edinburgh expedition. The U14 narrowly lost 5-4. Well played.

TENNIS: U12 & U13 v Ashville

Score: U12 Won, U13 Lost

It was great to see four pairs of U12s and four pairs of U13s play some great tennis matches away at Ashville. Some of the players were representing QM in Tennis for the very first time.

There were some tough matches for the U13s playing against a strong Ashville team, but they held their own and showed real progress throughout the games. The U12s took control from the start and their skills progressed to secure the win.

Well done to all the girls who played and enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of Tennis.

TENNIS: U13 vs Fulford LTA Youth Schools

Score: Lost 4-2

The U14 Tennis team played in testing conditions on Wednesday afternoon against local school Fulford. Each player played their singles match first, playing against their equivalent opposition. There were some great shots being made throughout all four courts and certainly some fabulous tight games.

All players must be commended on their scoring and match etiquette throughout both their singles and doubles play. One match certainly was end to end with the score and went right to the wire with a tiebreak to find the outcome. Sadly this went to Fulford.

After some well-earned shade and water, the girls played their double matches, again displaying some lovely teamwork on the court with a win and a loss for QM.

The final result of 4-2 to the away team did not reflect the games that took place. Well done girls, especially in the warm conditions.

National Swimathon - Years I & II

Swimathon is the world's largest annual fundraising swimming event, taking place all across the UK. All girls in Years I & II have been undertaking a challenge of swimming 5km.

The girls have been allocated teams and, over the past two swimming lessons, have been working together to combine their lengths to equal the 200 lengths of the pool required.

It has been fantastic to see the teamwork and communication amongst the girls and I have been impressed with each one's responsibility and contribution they are making. Each and every girl should be proud of their efforts - whether a beginner or an experienced swimmer, they have all contributed to this challenge in some way.

All swimmers also made improvements on their own distance and contribution, ensuring they swam more lengths than in session one.

Horse Riding Success for Freya

Freya's mother has been in touch to tell us about Freya (Year IV)) and her horse riding outside of school...

On Saturday we heading up to Penrith for another qualifier for the BE U18s 90 team. The event was held at Frenchfield Horse Trials - a stunningly beautiful backdrop which felt like you we were on top of the world.

Freya and Abi did a lovely test of 26 which saw them take a clear lead. This was followed by a clear show jumping round, which kept them in 1st place. I think a super fit Abi was so eager around the cross country, they were a bit overzealous and ended up too quick with time faults putting them down to 3rd place with only a couple of marks separating the top 3 places.

Still, a brilliant result, especially as Freya was feeling ill all day so she did incredibly well to get through it and pull off a placing. Next stop is Belsay International Horse Trials on the first weekend in June.
