Saturday 11th November 2023

Lacrosse: 1st Team v HLC

Score: 11-5

POM: Poppy (IV) and Harriet (LVI)

We were blessed with the weather for our matches on Saturday, and the weather not only saw many spectators come and watch but also seemed to give QM the push to go for it in all the lacrosse matches.

The 1st team started the afternoon off, a young squad that took to the pitch with hope and determination. They started off strong with a few quick goals that came from successful draws and brilliant teamwork from the attack. Slick passing and movement meant it was hard to defend.

HLC came back in the second quarter, putting up a fight and getting a couple of goals. This just made QM fight harder and ensured they worked to score some more. Some great defence meant that although HLC tried to attack, they were denied on a few occasions. At halftime, the score was 6-2, and it was all to play for.

The second half saw both teams come out hard and determined, and there was some great lacrosse from both teams in both attack and defence. QM just had the edge, not only causing problems in defence with amazing man-marking and blocking passes and shots, but the attack also worked the ball around to create the perfect opportunities.

When any QM player got in front of the goal and had the opportunity to shoot, they made it count by working the goalkeeper and shooting to score.

A brilliant display of teamwork by the 1st team; they should all be so proud of their performances. Congratulations to Poppy (IV), who was the player of the match awarded by the opposition, and to Harriet (LVI), who was awarded Players' Player from her team. Thank you to Elsa (LVI) and Olivia (LVI) for stepping up as captains for the day.

Lacrosse: U15/U14 v HLC U15

Score: 9-4

POM: Sautu J + Izzy A

The U15/U14 took to the pitch second on Saturday, following a successful 1st team match. With a few of the girls from U15 playing for the first team, we mixed this team with U15s and U14s against the HLC U15 team.

Considering they have not played together yet this season, they started strong and played so well together. QM took the lead from the first draw, and then the game was end-to-end for the first half, with QM just keeping the lead the whole time. The team spirit and positivity of QM kept them going throughout.

Some awesome saves from Sautu (III) denied HLC a few times, as well as the defence keeping the ball out of the danger zone at other times. With a large squad, substitutions were plenty, which meant that all the players could give their absolute all when on the pitch, and they all did.

The second half saw QM take more control in the attack, with some stunning play from some of our U15s who just made it all look so easy with outstanding stick skills and passing. Well done to all the U14s that stepped up in this match playing against the year above. It was such a pleasure to watch and be a part of this game, and it was really great to see all the players doing so well and having so much fun with it.

Big shoutout to the Player of the Match voted by HLC, Sautu (III), and Izzy (III) who was voted Players' Player by the QM team.

Lacrosse: U13/U12 v HLC

Score: Drew 6-6

POM: Lola F

Our first lacrosse match of the season for this age group and a debut for several Year I. In a close game with both teams matching each other goal for goal, our girls worked well together and improved significantly, using all of the space available when attacking. Lots of lessons learnt to take away into our next few lessons.

A really encouraging start to the season. Special mention must go to Elsa (LVI) for umpiring the match, well done. Players' Player - Maddie, Louise, and Polly. Coaches' Most Improved player: Annabel.

Sunday 12th November 2023

U18 County Lacrosse Championships

POM: A Team Olivia B, B team Freya F

What a difference a day can make - a beautiful, sunny, crisp Saturday for fixtures to a cold, wet, windy, and extremely muddy Sunday.

When seeing the players come off the pitch at the end of the U18 County Lacrosse tournament, I was still surprised to see there was plenty of mud left on the pitches; they were all caked in it. A big shoutout to all our spectators for coming out and staying out in such uninviting weather.

All the QM girls played joined the Yorkshire A + B teams and played brilliantly, showing grit, determination, and keeping a sense of humour. Elsa (LVI) was the joint captain of the U18 Team, and Daisy (UVI) joint captain of the U18 B team. Some tough games saw Yorkshire put up a good fight and showed some great lacrosse across the day, but the other counties had the edge.

The U18 A team had an incredible game against the U18A Cheshire team, end-to-end, with the halftime score being 2-4. Cheshire just had the edge in the second half and came out of it to win the game 6-9, but the Yorkshire team gave such a good fight and showed some excellent lacrosse throughout the game. A young lot of QM girls involved means that we have lots to look forward to next season and a chance in the U15 tournament in December for some of them to look forward to.

Congratulations to Olivia (LVI) who received Most Valuable Player for Yorkshire U18 A and to Freya (VI) who received Most Valuable Player for Yorkshire U18 B.

Monday 13th November 2023

QM Mavericks A v RI Eclipse

Score: Lost 35-21

POM: Jennifer F (UVI)

With the stormy weather howling outside, Mavericks A were thankful they were playing indoors. After a decent start with just one goal after the first quarter, RI Eclipse started the second with some impressive zonal defending and soon pulled ahead to win the game.

Tuesday 14th November 2023

QM Mavericks B v Stamford 2

Score: Lost 48-22

POM: Miss McGain

True to form, Mavericks B started slow, going behind by nine goals after the first quarter. We picked up a bit of momentum in the second and third, before Stamford 2 upped their game, pulling ahead to seal the victory.

Wednesday 15th November 2023

U15 Independent Schools Hockey Plate 1st Round vs Mount St Mary's College

Score: 2-0 Win

A fantastic game of hockey was played this Tuesday by the U15s in their first round of the Plate competition. The girls earned their win with every person on the pitch doing their bit to help out - a proper team performance was seen. Some great linking through the midfield allowed for many attacks on goal and a few 1-on-1 situations with the keeper. This allowed QM to score two lovely goals and give them a nice lead. A big thank you to Mount St Mary's for travelling down, and we look forward to seeing who our next match is against in our next round.

Senior Tennis vs Yarm (LTA Youth Schools Year 11-13)

Score: 4-2 Loss

POM: Tilly S

A very blustery afternoon set the scene for our first group fixture against Yarm for the LTA Schools Year 11-13 Tennis Competition.

There were 4 well-fought singles matches with a good level of tennis shown on every court. Throughout the fixture, the girls were battling through strong winds but maintained their concentration. After the round of singles, the score was 1-3. The doubles made a slow start, but once the girls continued to hit through the ball and have more confidence in their tennis, their level increased. Our 1st pair narrowly lost 2-6 with plenty of deuce-advantage games, and our second pair won their doubles 6-3.

There was good communication on show in the doubles with plenty of activity at the net and high spirits from start to finish. Well played QM!
