Inez Brown Visits QM
Guest Speaker Inez Brown

Emily P (LVI) told us about an inspirational visit this week from legal professional Inez Brown...
"On Wednesday 13th September, Inez Brown came to do a talk, giving an insight into her life as a medical negligence solicitor turned consultant.
She is a perfect example of how to balance personal career success with giving back to the community: not only has she been the first black President of the Birmingham Law Society and influenced the creation of a new set of laws surrounding medical practitioner checks, but she has also set up a scholarship to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented groups access the profession and has dedicated a lot of time to raising money for charity.
Inez went from growing up in a council-owned estate, the daughter of a single parent, to being recognised by The Legal 500 Directory of the UK’s top law firms and lawyers as well as being a board member of the Child Brain Injury Trust (among many other things).
The talk was an incredibly useful experience for aspiring lawyers (especially as the academic scholars got to meet her beforehand to ask questions and have her explain the different fields of law and potential routes into the industry), but also for anyone interested in the advice she shared about networking, extracurriculars, the importance of having a mentor, and not letting anyone stop you from doing what you want to do.
A big thank you to Mr Burt and Mr Grant for arranging this opportunity!"
