Choosing your daughter’s secondary education is a pivotal step towards shaping her future. At Queen Margaret’s, we focus upon growing the holistic potential within every student. Not only do our girls exceed their academic expectations, they are empowered to discover and nurture their individual talents - be it horse riding, music production or drama. You can read more about living and learning at QM here.
This page will give you a feel for life at QM and an insight into what UK Admissions for Queen Margaret's looks like, you can also read more in our Information & Admissions brochure here.
Visit Queen Margaret's
The first thing to do, and the best way to find out more about QM is to book a visit. This can be on one of our scheduled Open Days or at a different time to suit you. Your visit will involve a tour of the school with our students and a meeting with the Head. Our Admissions Team is on hand throughout the school holidays, so you're welcome to visit then too!
Tailored Support
We are proud of being a small school; our tailored class sizes foster a tight-knit and supportive community, where girls are known by name in their lessons, on the hockey pitch and even in the dining hall. The Good Schools Guide says "QM is small but perfectly formed and has everything you could wish for, unless you crave anonymity and getting lost in the crowd."(read The Good Schools Guide Review here). Our girls never get lost in the crowd.
We work closely with our students to identify their individual ambitions and interests, and weekly one-on-one Personal Tutor sessions make sure that girls are on the right track from Year I through to UVI.
The support each girl needs is inevitably varied and variable. Some girls will look for academic support through our very well respected PASS (Progress, Achievement and Student Support) Department. Others will need emotional support through the services of our professionally staffed Health and Wellbeing Centre and some will simply need that open door, time and willingness to listen when things feel a little tough. We have the support structures in place to get each girl ready for life, whatever her calling. With 24 GCSE subjects and nearly 30 courses on offer in the Sixth Form, a personalised timetable is created for every student.

For more information on Taster Days please contact our Admissions Team.
3. Entrance Assessments
Our general assessment day for Years I - III is usually held in the January prior to September entry. Girls will be invited to School for a single day of examinations and interviews. Girls are tested in English and Mathematics, have a one-to-one interview with a member of staff and complete a dyslexia screening test. The offer of a place at 16+ is conditional upon applicants achieving a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above, including at least Grade 6 in the subjects proposed for study at A Level. Applicants must pass GCSE/iGCSE English and Mathematics at Grade 5 or better or hold a similar qualification. Occasionally, in line with our commitment to supporting each girl personally, individual circumstances might mean that the school will consider a different grade profile.
4. Scholarships
Academic, Art, Choral, Dance, Drama, Music and Sport Scholarships at QM aim to recognise outstanding promise and may be awarded to external and internal candidates. Interviews, examinations and auditions usually take place when a student completes their entrance assessments, you can learn more about Scholarships at Queen Margaret's here.
