Queen Margaret's Annual Concert Series
A Rich Concert Programme
The Music Department delivers a rich and varied concert and festival series throughout the year. The much-loved formal Christmas and Summer Concerts are annual highlights attended by the whole QM Family.
The Summer and Christmas Concerts celebrate the work of all QM’s ensembles, resulting in a varied and rich programme and making them truly special evenings to remember. In spring, QM’s Young Musician of the Year competition is held over the course of a week which sees over 70 performances from budding musicians and singers of varying standards compete in their respective categories - all receiving individual feedback, with awards for special performances. The week culminates in the much anticipated Advanced Competition, adjudicated independently and then celebrated with QM’s Annual Music Department Dinner, a formal occasion which takes place in the stunning surroundings of The Wenlock Library.
QM’s Music Festival Week was recently launched, featuring ‘Rush Hour Recitals’ from QM’s Music staff along with masterclasses and seminars from ABRSM examiners and workshop events for visiting preparatory schools.
Alongside performances in Assembly and Chapel services, individual musicians have the opportunity to grow in confidence and experience through the School's year group lunchtime concert series and through Wednesday@1 – our weekly informal concerts where students can showcase their works to a supportive audience of peers and teachers alike.
The benefits of performing in the wider community cannot be underestimated and girls participate in performances at a wide range of events, including Chamber Concerts at Connaught Court Residential Home, a festive programme at the Duncombe Park Christmas Fair, and other prestigious occasions such as providing the opening entertainment at Welcome to Yorkshire’s White Rose Awards.
