Spotlight On

In our "Spotlight On" series, you can meet members of the QM Family. Here's Cathy Hall, Sixth Form Housemistress.

What are your main roles at QM?

My main role at QM is to look after the emotional, physical and general wellbeing of the Sixth Form Students. To create a home-from-home atmosphere within the boarding houses and to get the students ready for life after QM.

What do you like about working at QM?

I adore the beautiful buildings and picturesque grounds but most of all I enjoy spending time with the amazing young ladies, who are the fabulous Sixth Form.

Where did you come from before QM?

I have worked at several boarding schools. I worked in a girls' boarding house at Christ Hospital school in Horsham for 4 years. I have worked at Harrow School in London for 6 ½ years looking after 80 teenage boys. Recently I returned from Dubai working in a co-ed international boarding school before joining QM just before Christmas.

What are you most proud of?

I am very proud of reaching the Everest base camp in Nepal.

How do you relax when you are not at QM?

I have a wonderfully cheeky fur baby called Hugo, who is a 5-year-old Boston Terrier and I love taking him out for long walks.

I love to read and my favourite would be a gripping thriller.

I do find myself often watching trash TV - The Real Housewives of ...!

Who would you most like to sit down and have a cup of tea/coffee with?

Dame Judi Dench - I would enjoy hearing all the behind-the-scenes stories from the amazing movies she has starred in.

The White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland - I think he would benefit from some mindfulness. It's not good to be as stressed as he is rushing about like that. I feel a few tips on being organised and planning for the next day would really help him.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together.

What’s your favourite biscuit?

This is too hard a question - How can anyone have just 1 favourite?

I guess a milk chocolate hobnob or a jaffa cake (but is it even a biscuit?).
