Queen Margaret's Equestrian Team at the NSEA National Championships
At the beginning of half term, three of our talented riders — Emily O'G (Year V), Martha C (Year IV), and Lucinda O'G (Year III) — travelled to Buckinghamshire for the National Schools Equestrian Association’s National Championships. With their five ponies, Lady, Bing, Gucci, Tommy, and Flash, the team had already achieved a great deal by qualifying for this prestigious event.
Over the three days of competition, the girls tackled 13 rounds across a range of classes, including 80cm team showjumping, individual rounds at 90cm and 100cm, as well as 80cm and 90cm Arena Eventing. The competition was tough, but all three riders displayed immense skill and resilience, bouncing back from challenging rounds and even a fall (including one from a pony) to ride fast, competitive rounds in other classes. Their efforts truly put Queen Margaret's on the NSEA map.
The team's hard work paid off with fantastic results. Emily started strong on Day 1, winning the 90cm scurry warm-up class with her new horse, Flash (nicknamed "Unorthadox"). As the competition progressed, the girls continued to impress. Martha delivered an excellent performance, securing 8th place in the 80cm showjumping plate with a quick, well-executed round.
On the final day, the highlight came with Emily's victory in the 95cm Championship Plate. After overcoming a bit of stage fright in the indoor 100/105cm Championship (we later discovered it was Flash's first indoor competition), they moved outdoors for the 95cm class. As the last to jump, Emily and Flash delivered a flawless round, clinching the title of 95cm Individual Champion.
Martha also had a strong finish, placing 8th in the 85cm Plate and achieving a clear round in the 100/105cm class to secure 10th place. She completed two Jumping with Style (JwS) rounds, handling a minor mishap on Gucci and a spook that led to a fall on Bing (thankfully, she was unharmed).
The 80cm team event saw all three riders giving their best, but unfortunately, faults for each competitor dashed our hopes for a podium finish this time (those tricky poles!). However, the team continued to persevere, moving on to the 90cm and 100cm classes over the following days with determination and enthusiasm.
Overall, the girls rode their hearts out, bringing home rosettes and a national championship title. A special mention goes to Emily for being crowned the 90cm Plate National Champion on her new horse Flash, and to the entire team for their exceptional sportsmanship and resilience throughout the event.
Well done, Queen Margaret's equestrian team!
North Yorkshire Hockey Squad 2024
Congratulations to India T, Polly W and Bobble P who have all been selected for the North Yorkshire U14 squad this year.
India and Polly have made the team for the first time this season and Bobble has represented North Yorkshire for a few seasons previously. This is a great achievement and allows the girls the opportunity to represent their county in several Sunday tournaments against other county teams across the country.

QM Mavericks A vs Northern Storm
Result: Won 45-37
POM: Elsa (UVI)
A late centre pass saw QM Mavericks A travel away to face Northern Storm. In previous encounters, the games have been close up until the last quarter, so the A team knew this was going to be a tough one. At half-time, it was 22-22, and with the third 'cursed' quarter looming, the As knew they needed to keep possession and score on their centre passes — no pressure! The third quarter ended with the A team ahead by 5 goals, which was enough to help secure the win. Great teamwork!

Netball
QM Mavericks B vs Selby Hurricanes
Result: Won 50-8
POM: Amy (GS)
After a two-week break, QM Mavericks B were keen to get back on court against another local rival, Selby Hurricanes. The B team stormed ahead in the first quarter, turning over almost all of Selby's centres. The hard work and excellent interceptions in the defensive third continued throughout the following quarters, helping the Bs towards a massive win.

- 3-0 Win vs Ashville
- 2-0 Win vs Scarborough College
- 1st place overall
POM
- Suzi S. (I)
- Nattida C. (I)
- Erin O. (I)
Match Report vs Ashville:
The match on Tuesday was an incredible competition against Ashville. We started strong, maintaining possession of the ball. Suzi S. weaved through the defenders and hit the ball straight past the goalkeeper into the net, putting us 1-0 up. Consistent passing and control led to our second goal, with Suzi sweeping the ball from the start of the D. Nattida C. then took control and set Mimi up for a successful third goal, ending the game at 3-0. At the final whistle, the sense of victory was palpable. Congratulations to Nattida for being named Player of the Match. Well done, U12!
Match Report vs Scarborough College:
The 2-0 win against Scarborough College was another fantastic match. Isolde scored a brilliant goal from the post with an assist from Suzi S., who later netted another stunning goal, sending it straight into the corner and leaving the goalkeeper stunned. Although both goals were remarkable, the entire team contributed and made it difficult for the opposition to gain control. Suzi was deservedly named Player of the Match. Great job, U12As!
