Saturday 12th November
Badminton vs HLC
POM: Eunice L and Eunice P (LVI)
Our first badminton match of the year and there were some competitive games in both doubles and singles. All of our players were able to play at least three sets of badminton and the standard certainly improved as the afternoon progressed. Special mentions to our U15 players who played against their senior players. Most improved were Charlotte L9 (Year IV) and Amanda L (Year IV). Overall we won the singles matches convincingly and narrowly lost the doubles matches overall.
Netball U19 County Round
Score: 5th place out of 9
In total, the 1st team played 8 matches. We started off strong with solid wins against HLC and Scarborough, setting us up well for the following matches.
We then came away from the next game with a draw due to the increase of small mistakes we made as a team. We went on to play higher-ranked teams and fought very hard to win, but unfortunately started to lose our confidence and made a few larger mistakes which cost us a few games.
We then came back with a more positive outlook and worked well together, but unfortunately just lost the games against Ashville, St Peter’s and Queen Ethelburga’s.
Overall, we ended on a high note where we didn’t let our heads drop and supported each other throughout, leading to us coming 5th out of 9 teams.
U13 Hockey vs Hymers
Score: L2-4
POM: Amelia B (Year II) & Grace S (Year II)
The U13s played so well, putting up a great fight against Hymers with a positive display of teamwork - showing what they had been learning in lessons and trying to attack up the pitch.
Hymers A was a very strong team, making QM A work really hard in defence, though Amelia B make some incredible saves in goal.
The B team took to the pitch next and started strong but could not keep Hymers out of their goal. The second half saw QM dominating the pitch - making Hymers have to work hard to keep them out. The final score was 2-4, but had there been 1 more quarter, we might have caught them.
Some great hockey and the players should be very proud.
U14/15 Hockey vs Hymers
Score: L7-0
POM: Lucy and Hattie E (Year IV)
On Saturday, the U15 hockey team went away to Hymers. The team played well against some tough competition and really gave it their all, with defence working exceptionally hard.
It may not have been the result we had hoped for, however lots of great hockey was played. Well done to Lucy C (Year IV) and Hattie E (Year IV) who both got Player of the Match.

Yorkshire Lacrosse
POM: Megan B (UVI) & Issy B (Year III)
Yorkshire took to the pitch first against Lancashire for the A & B Teams - two tough games against very tough sides. Lancashire A went in to win the Tournament, though Yorkshire put up a good fight in both games.
Next up were matches against Shropshire. The B Team put up a good fight and did themselves proud by playing a very disciplined game in a match with 5 yellow cards for the opposition. The A Team match also saw yellow cards, but Yorkshire fought through and the final score was 4-8, which was a great final score and showed the fight that Yorkshire had put up.
The final games were against Cheshire. With another highly physical match, both teams were tiring at this stage. They were each asked to tighten up and that they did, with a well-fought game but ultimately a win to Cheshire.
The A team took to the pitch for the last time and gave Cheshire a great game - 3 all at half time. Cheshire came back to go ahead, but Yorkshire was not going to give in and fought deep. The game finished 7-8 with both teams playing very well. Congratulations to Megan B who was voted Most Valuable Player in A team, and Isabel B being voted the same in the B team.
Monday 14th November
Mavericks B v Sherburn
Score: Lost 42-9
POM: Harriette (Year IV)
A decent performance from Mavericks B with some solid passing and movement from the whole team. Just a shame that they couldn't find the net tonight.
Good to see a few coaching tips from the netball clubs being shared during the warm-up and, even better, used during the actual match. It seems the Bs have finally found their teamwork spirit and collectiveness - onwards and upwards!
Mavericks A v York City Cannons
Score: Won 41-20
POM: Bonnie (UVI)
Despite being indoors, the ice-box temperature must have been one of the factors for Mavericks As very, very slow start!
The As soon found their form, scoring an average of 10 goals per quarter in what could be described as 'a gentle contested game'. A superb team effort especially in the last quarter, where Cannons only scored two goals.
Badminton v Ripon Grammar
Score: QM 21 Ripon 13
The senior badminton team for the second week running were on fire for their fixture against Ripon Grammar School. Ripon brought mixed teams, which was lovely for a change, and it was a great competitive environment, made even better as we beat them!
Our overall score was QM 21 Ripon 13. Player of the afternoon was Eunice L (LVI) who played consistently well all afternoon, beating all her opponents both at singles and doubles.
U15 Netball v Millthorpe
Score: Lost 14-8
POM: Lucy (Year IV)
A decent team effort by the U15s - depsite a few jittery nerves for their first-ever netball match of the year! The team kept their spirits up throughout and seemed to enjoy playing a competitive match. Even though the team lost, they still gained one point for getting more than half score. Well done U15s!
