Lacrosse – Senior Training with England Player Olivia Wimpenny
On Thursday, the 1st Lacrosse Team had an incredible training session with Olivia Wimpenny, Team England and Team GB lacrosse player. She delivered a fantastic session, giving insightful tips and running drills that really made the players think.

A huge thank you to Olivia for supporting our lacrosse programme. She is running weekly training sessions, which we hope will continue through the summer—keep an eye out for more information. She is also hosting day camps in Manchester during the holidays, so watch out for the dates and other locations where she will be coaching.

Saturday saw an U14 team made up of experienced players alongside some completely new to the game. The team worked well together, held their own against strong opposition, and showed huge progress throughout the tournament. A close game against Moreton Hall and a draw against Withington meant that, despite some losses, the players felt they had achieved a lot and played some great lacrosse.

A real positive is that those new to the game this season are keen to continue playing alongside our established players, thanks to such a positive experience. Well done, everyone!

Lacrosse – 1st Team Training at Leeds Penguins
Looking ahead to the National Schools competition, the 1st Team Lacrosse squad travelled to Adel Sports Club to train with Leeds Penguins Lacrosse. It was a great change of scenery and a chance to train with different players, making the session more dynamic. The atmosphere was fantastic, and all the QM girls performed really well. The club team also said it helped them raise their training level too, which was great to hear.

A huge thank you to Leeds Penguins for hosting us and giving us a brilliant training session in the lead-up to Nationals!

Tuesday 4 March

Netball – QM Mavericks A vs Northern Devils
Result: Lost 68 - 31
Player of the Match: Izzy R (V)
In their penultimate match of the season, QM Mavericks A faced Northern Devils. When these two teams met in November, it was a close game, with Northern Devils winning by just five goals. However, this time, luck was not on the A team’s side, and the opposition pushed ahead to seal a decisive victory.

Netball – QM Mavericks B vs Sherburn Lunars
Result: Lost 39 - 35
Player of the Match: Emily (IV)
QM Mavericks B played their last game of the season against local rivals Sherburn Lunars. It was a slow start from both teams, with Sherburn leading 9-7 after the first quarter. However, with end-to-end action and contested play, QM managed to pull ahead by one goal after the third quarter. In the final quarter, nerves got the better of the team, leading to lost possession at key moments, which the opposition capitalised on to win by four goals.

Unlucky, but what an amazing season for QM Mavericks B, finishing as runners-up in their division! Massive well done to everyone!

On a glorious sunny afternoon, the Year 1s took to the astro for their final hockey matches of the year. There was some beautiful hockey played, with great passing and attacking play. A big thank you to our excellent goalkeepers for stepping up, and well done to everyone for playing so well. The team spirit in this year group has been brilliant all year, leading to continuous success and praise.

Wednesday 5 March

Netball – 2nd VII vs St Peter’s
Result: Lost 35 - 27
Player of the Match: Yiting (LVI)
A close match against St Peter’s saw a battle that was only two points apart until the last quarter. QM just ran out of steam towards the end but showed great netball throughout. QM’s defence, Yiting and Amanda, worked hard to keep the ball out of the D, making some superb interceptions. The sun made it difficult to shoot at one end, but that didn’t stop the team—our shooters did well to get around a tough St Peter’s defence. A very positive and evenly matched game; the girls should be proud of their performance.

Netball – 1st VII vs St Peter’s
Result: Won 37 - 24
Player of the Match: Lulu
On Wednesday, 5th March, the 1st Netball team headed to St Peter’s. Despite a slow start, the team progressed amazingly from 8-10 in the first quarter to finish with a 37-24 win. There was some lovely movement at both ends of the court, with great shots in attack. Lulu was awarded Player of the Match after stepping in to play GK. It was also lovely to play outside in the sunshine, making for a very positive match, though there are still things to work on ahead of our upcoming tournaments.
