Badminton - QM vs Ripon Grammar

On Wednesday, we went to Ripon Grammar School for our first badminton fixture of the year. Our scores were close to each other. We developed friendships during the match, and it was a great experience for us to improve our skills. This time, we have many new players, and their performances are very impressive. We're looking forward to seeing how they perform in the upcoming matches!

Hockey - 1sts vs Ashville
Result: 1-0 Win
Player of the Match: Bobble P (III)
On Saturday, the Firsts had an extremely tough yet rewarding match against Ashville. It was a super close game; however, we managed to have possession for the majority of the match. We really tested the Ashville goalie as we had many opportunities to score, thanks to the support from the whole team, with our wonderful defence and midfielders moving forward. Sophie secured us the victory. The squad played an excellent game where we held our own and didn't give Ashville the opportunity to score, even if, in the last two minutes, we did have a rather stressful short corner against us. Bobble deservingly received player of the match from the opposition. We look forward to taking them on again this Wednesday! A big thank you to all the parents who came and watched on Saturday; it is always much appreciated when you take the time to support us.

Hockey - U15s vs Ashville
Result: 1-1 Draw
Player of the Match: Grace S (IV)
On Saturday, we played Ashville and started off strong, keeping most of the possession as we went towards goal. Bronwyn made some great saves, and good defending was happening when Ashville had short corners. Unfortunately, Ashville scored, making the score 1-0. We came back strong with excellent hits from Grace to Evie, which were then passed to Bobble, who made a great pass to Emily, who then flicked it over the keeper's stick, making the final score 1-1. The player of the match was Grace; well done to everyone who played. A big thank you to any parents who came and took the time to watch on Saturday; your support really does make a difference and is greatly appreciated.

Hockey - U14s vs Ashville
Result: 4-1 Loss
Players of the Match: India T (III) & Daisy B (III)
Last Saturday, we played against Ashville School; this was definitely a tough match, but we pushed through. The defence was strong, but when the ball got past them, Lucinda made some amazing saves. In the first half, our attack had many great shots on goal, but unfortunately, they did not go in. At half-time, we discussed how we needed to keep working on our press and always look up when passing the ball. In the next half, we could definitely see the improvements because our passes were either going into space or to the player. One player managed to pass the ball to Heidi, who scored a great goal. Overall, I think we did very well in this match. Even though we did not win, we still played extremely well; in the end, the score was 4-1 to Ashville.

Hockey - U13A vs Ashville
Result: 3-1 Loss
Player of the Match: Martha W (II)
On Saturday, the under-13A team played Ashville. It was a really tough game, especially in the cold wind and rain. Although it was cold, we did get quite a few attacking short corners, but unfortunately didn’t manage to score any goals. We were able to save a lot of shots and get the ball out of the D into space. For the next game, it would help us to work on our attacking short corners so we could try to get a few more goals.

Hockey - U13B vs Ashville
Result: 2-1 Win
Player of the Match: Estelle O (I)
The B team played really well last Saturday against Ashville, who were quite challenging. We used all our tactics from sports lessons in this match, such as spacing out and driving with the ball. We also listened to the umpire regarding short and long corners and when the ball hit our feet. Both goals were scored by Susie, and Estelle received the player of the match. Overall, it was fantastic.

Hockey - U12A vs Ashville
Result: 0-0 Draw

Hockey - U12B vs Ashville
Result: 3-0 Loss
Player of the Match: Constanza G-T B (I)
On Saturday, group B did really well with spacing, defending, and intercepting. The players who participated were Thembi, Elisa, Bailee, Abena, Eilidh, Sukhmani, Melina, Estelle, Charlotte, and myself. One of the goals was scored by Ashville; it was really quick. We managed to steal the ball, but they quickly won it back. We tried to put pressure on them, but the fact that we were all fighting for it made it difficult for us and easier for them to run towards the goal. When they were close enough, one girl passed the ball to her teammate, and before I could reach it, she pushed it roughly to the goal and scored just between Eilidh’s legs. A really big thank you to Eilidh for volunteering as a goalkeeper and for stopping three shots in a row, and to Abena for her amazing effort throughout the match. For the next match, we should perhaps try to listen more to the umpire.

In the first of two Mavericks fixtures, the B team faced Stamford 3. The first half finished 16-11 to the Bs, and the second half looked set to be a close contest. Fortunately, a tactical switch in the attack helped the Bs secure a convincing win.

What a fantastic afternoon of hockey it was that we had the pleasure of hosting on Wednesday. The 1st XI had trained so hard for this tournament and played out of their skin on the day, unfortunately narrowly missing out on progressing to the next round by one goal! A big thank you to our dedicated parents who could come and watch and provide many snacks to keep the team going!
