Tuesday 24th September 2024 - Hockey Umpiring Refresher Session by City of York
On Tuesday evening, we were pleased to welcome two visitors from the City of York Hockey Club to run a Hockey Umpiring event at school. Nick Fitton, leader of the Roscoe Anderson Umpire Academy set up by the City of York, and Nathan Ridsdale, who gained his qualification through the academy, led a fantastic session.
This event allowed the PE department and some of our Sports Scholars to brush up on their umpiring skills or experience hockey from a different perspective.
Thank you to all the Year I-IV girls who participated and played, allowing us to practice our skills. A special well done to those who practiced their umpiring: Miss Kilburn, Miss Whittle, Mrs Burton, Mrs Rastall, Emilia R., Emily R., Celia S., Elsa S., and Harriet W.
If you're interested in learning more about the Roscoe Anderson Umpire Academy or getting started with umpiring, please contact Nick Fitton at nickfitton60@gmail.com.
Wednesday 25th September 2024 - Netball Match Report
We had a match against the University of York on Wednesday, which provided great training and an opportunity to play against older, more experienced players.
QM started brilliantly, taking the lead in the first quarter and showcasing their strength in defending, turning over possession, and transitioning smoothly to attack. As the game progressed, York increased their attacking pressure, challenging our defence, who managed to prevent some goals but not all.
The game was end-to-end with equal possession from both sides, but York ultimately converted more chances. QM played exceptionally well against a strong York team and did themselves proud.
Congratulations to Jemima P., who played in goal for the first time ever and did a fantastic job saving some great shots. She was voted joint Player of the Match alongside Isabel B., who had an outstanding game, mainly in defence, but also taking the ball up to attack and scoring a fantastic goal.
The final score was a loss for QM, but it was a great game, and we look forward to meeting York on the pitch again.
