York Area Athletics Finals

On Wednesday, 14 QM girls attended the Finals of the York Area Athletics competition. Despite the extremely hot and challenging conditions, this did not stop them all from doing so well and also smashing personal bests (PB) in so many events. Congratulations to all the students involved.

We now have some Area Champions at QM!

Area Champions

  • Year 8 - 800m York Area Champion: Emilia R with a PB of 2:33
  • Year 8 - 100m York Area Champion: India T with a PB of 14.25 seconds
  • Year 8 - Shot Put York Area Champion: Akosua E with a PB of 7.12 meters

We also have a number of students who were placed in their events:

Notable Placements

  • Emily R: 2nd in Year 9 1500m
  • Lola F: 2nd in Year 7 200m with a PB of 30.25 seconds
  • Frances W: 3rd in Year 9 Long Jump
  • Bobble P: 3rd in Year 8 Long Jump
  • India T: 3rd in Year 8 High Jump with a PB of 1.35 meters
  • Year 8 Relay Team: 3rd place (Team members: Brontë, Emilia, Bobble, and India)

Special Recognitions

  • India T: Qualified for three events on finals day, placed in all three, and achieved two PBs.
  • Bobble P, Emilia R, and Emily R: Each placed in both of their events, with Emilia taking 8 seconds off her 800m PB despite the heat.
  • Year 9 Relay Team: (Izzy A, Emily R, Evie G, and Frances W) who were in a super fast and tough final, they just got pipped at the line and came in 4th place.

We saw some super impressive performances on what was a very competitive finals day.

Now we're looking forward to Sports Day, where you witness all these impressive athletes plus many more.

Regional Hockey Success

Louise B and Bobble P (Year II) have both been selected for the U13 North East Regional Hockey Team! This is a fantastic achievement; it's a great opportunity for U12 & U13 players to take part in a regional team and compete against other teams across England.

Both girls were successfully selected following trials which took place over several weekends. They have worked very hard on their hockey in the run-up to the trials and have done brilliantly to be selected. They will have two weekends of training in the build-up to the official tournament on the 13th of July weekend and we wish them all the best.

A great achievement again - well done, girls.

Wednesday 26th June

St Peter's Festival U15 Tennis

What a hot day for our students to compete at the St Peter's Tennis Festival. The event featured pairs from each school playing against their respective counterparts, with each match decided by either a 3-0 or 2-1 score in doubles only.

All matches were best of three sets, with a championship tiebreak serving as the deciding third set.

Our pairings were:

  • Jemima and Celia
  • Poppy and Isabel
  • Annabelle and Amelie

Match 1 - Ashville: Our team started the tournament strong with a 3-0 victory.

Match 2 - St Peter's: Our second match against St Peter's saw some excellent play. Despite their efforts, Jemima and Celia lost 7-5, 6-3, while Poppy and Isabel lost 6-4, 6-3. Annabelle and Amelie secured a win in the championship tiebreak, 10-8. Unfortunately, this resulted in a close 2-1 loss.

Match 3 - Grammar School at Leeds: In our final match, the girls secured another 3-0 victory.

The team spent at least five hours on court, competing in intense heat and sunshine. The atmosphere felt like Wimbledon, with players hydrating at changeovers just like the professionals. Finishing as runners-up was an outstanding result.

Upon returning to school, Mr Allison and Mrs Rastall kindly opened the outdoor pool, allowing everyone to cool off. What a day!
