Leeds Rhinos V Loughborough Lightning trip

On Sunday, the Sports department ran a trip to the Leeds First Direct Arena to watch the superleague team of Leeds Rhinos take on the 2nd team in the table, Loughborough Lightning.

Taking the train to Leeds, we had a brief stop at a bookshop before becoming VIPs (thanks to Mrs Rastall) - getting to enjoy free facepaint and have photos with the mascot.

It was an incredibly exciting game, as Leeds made an impressive comeback in the 3rd quarter but fell short in the 4th quarter.

Riding for England

Today, Alexandra C has been representing England at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. She was competing in the Pony Club Dressage Home International against Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. This brilliant achievement is a result of her performance in August 2023, where she won the Pony Club National Intermediate Dressage Championship. We hope the day went well!

Tennis U18, U15, U14, U13, U12 v Bradford Grammar School

Report:

A full fixture on Saturday 27th April with Bradford Grammar travelling to play U12 - U18 tennis matches against Queen Margaret’s. The weather was dry, but again, our students adapted to the rather cool and breezy conditions, hoping that warmer summer weather is on its way.

U12s: Year I - Sophia, Jasmine, Martha, Faith, Lola, Betsy, and Venus. Won 5-4.

U13s: Year II - Bobble, Akosua, Bronte, Charlotte, Louise, Lucinda, and Lydia. Lost 5-4.

U14s: Year III - Frances, Heidi, Bronwyn, Cara, Neve, and Amelia. Lost 8-1; however, lots of very close games were played.

U15s: Year IV - Celia, Jemima, Isabel B, Poppy, Amelie, and Freya. Won 32-24.

U18s: Florence (UVI), Kitty (UVI), Olivia (LVI), Miwa (Year V), Zoe (UVI), and Alexandra (UVI). Lost 32-31.

Overall, very good tennis was played by all year groups, and we are looking forward to the next fixture on 11th May v GSAL. This was the last full fixture for our current Upper Sixth and Year V, and we wish them the best of luck in their forthcoming exams.

Chapman Cup - Tennis

Score: Runners Up and 3rd Place

Report:

This tennis competition, held at Queen Mary’s, is run on the Billie Jean King Cup format where counties compete in singles and doubles against each other to conclude with a winner.

Izzy (Year III) & Emily (Year III) teamed together as the As, and Harriet (Year III) & Sadie (Year III) teamed as the B team. All played a set of singles against their opposite number and teamed together for a set of doubles.

Overall, our A team were runners-up, and our B team came 3rd. The players grew in confidence and adapted well to competing in this unique event. Well played.

Tennis v Tranby U12 & U13

Score: U12 won 5-4, U13 won 6-1

Report:

On Monday, the U12s and U13s travelled on a road trip to Tranby School in Hull to play some friendly doubles matches. It was an extremely windy day, and playing in those conditions was extremely testing. Our students showed their resilience by working together and adapting to the elements.

Swimming vs The Mount School

Yesterday the U12, U13 and U14 girls welcomed The Mount for a nail-biting swimming gala. All the races, especially the relays, were very closely fought. The QM U12 and U14 girls narrowly missed out on a win and the U13s drew overall. There was great support from a very energetic crowd of students and parents, and the atmosphere in the pool was great. Well done to all of our girls for giving The Mount such a warm welcome and for their excellent efforts on the pool.
