Young Musician of the Year 2023-2024

Musician of the Year

Published 2nd May 2024

Last week, our musicians competed every day in the multiple rounds of Young Musician of the Year.

The competition culminated in a public Advanced Final on Friday, where the standard of performance was outstanding. The guest judge was Sam Austin, Director of Music at Pocklington School. Following his insightful and entertaining feedback to all contestants, he chose Lucinda (UVI) as the champion for her wonderful clarinet performance. Lucinda is in her final year at QM and will be continuing her music studies next year at the prestigious Royal College of Music.

The Music Department and students celebrated afterwards with an entertaining dinner featuring games, prize giving, and fantastic food. Many thanks to Catering, Housekeeping, and IT for supporting a successful evening.

Music Prefect Zoë told us more: "Last week, after the Young Musician of the Year advanced final, we headed over to Wenlock Library for the annual Music Dinner. The dinner opened with a great debut performance from the Year III band, we then enjoyed a lovely meal and a range of activities including staff vs student quizzes, prize giving, videos, speeches and of course the Hoedown challenge. Thank you to the catering and music staff for organising a lovely evening."
