QM Mavericks B 33-34 Haxby 6

POM: Izzy B

Well done to the new QM Mavericks B team on their first match of the season! Nerves got the better of the Bs as they went down 11-3 in the first quarter. After trying out different combinations from a large pool of players, Mavs B came back strong in the next three quarters to almost get a draw - if only we had another 30 seconds of play! Looking forward to the rematch.

QM Mavericks A 22-65 Haxby 2

POM: Miss Kirkup

After coming in as the Division 2 runner-up last season, QM Mavericks A knew it was going to be a tough challenge in Division 1. None more so than the opener against current winners Haxby 2 who were unbeaten last season, scoring a whopping 1130 goals (quick maths: averaging 70.6 goals per game) and only letting in 416! Despite the loss, Mavs A held their nerve and can take comfort that they gave Haxby a good game.

QM Mavericks A 45 - Rawcliffe Raiders 20

POM: Jen

Game 2 for Mavs A this week, and what a game! Going up 16-3 after the first quarter was a massive boost to their confidence, especially after Tuesday's match. There were some exceptional feeds into the shooting circle and sublime play from defence to attack with every Mav player successfully contesting each ball - very few penalties given. Well done on a clean and convincing win!

QM Mavericks B v RI Blizzard

Score: Lost 52-37

POM: Miss McGain

A strong start for the Bs with some lovely attacking play. With only a few goals behind going into the fourth quarter, it looked set to be another close game. Alas, it was not to be as we began to falter and lose our fighting spirit. Unlucky Bs, a good effort though!

Badminton vs Ripon Grammar

Score: RGS 364. QM 305.

"This Wednesday, six Badminton pairs played a round-robin match vs Ripon Grammar School. Our scores were really close to each other. Special mention to Karis and Sharon who won three games in total. Also, special mention to Candy and Dora won two games.

Well done to Sophie and Charlotte in Year V for participating in their first senior badminton fixture.

Each of the six pairs won at least one match, however, the final score was RGS 364. QM 305."Karis (UVI)

1st XI Hockey vs Ripon Grammar School

Score: 3-2 Loss

POM: Flo (UVI), Harriet (LVI) & Hattie (V)

After a few weeks off, the 1sts needed a nice friendly before their U18 National League Tournament next week. The girls travelled to Ripon and were raring to go.

The game was a lovely one to watch with some really nice hockey being played by both teams. The 1sts moved the ball around the pitch beautifully, linking up through the midfield and creating several chances on goal resulting in two lovely deflections; one from Poppy (UVI) and Jen (UVI).

Unfortunately, Queen Margaret's were unable to hold Ripon to a draw as they snuck the winner in towards the end of the second half. This left the scoreline as 3-2 but did not reflect the great performance put in by the team this week - well done to all.

Northern Storm v QM Mavericks A

Score: Lost 45-35

POM: Mrs Rastall

A game of two halves as the A team put out a stellar performance after the first two quarters, matching goal for goal against last season's Division 2 winners. There was some very good play in the attacking circle and amazing intercepts by everyone, especially in the defending circle. But with a late start time and physical contests between players, it was clear the As were beginning to tire which allowed Storm to run ahead in the last quarter. The rematch will most certainly be another tense one.

U14 Tier 1&2 National Schools County Round

Score:

1-0 Loss (Queen Marys)

0-0 Draw (Ampleforth)

1-0 Loss (Giggleswick)

POM: Sautu (III), Bobble (II), Izzy (III), Heidi (III)

The U14s got a surprise when they found out they were through to the next round of their National League competition but took on this challenge well. With some very close results, the team improved massively since their last trip to Queen Mary's and their last face-off against Ampleforth College. With some changes in positions, the girls adapted well and represented their school but just could not put the ball in the net, unfortunately. A great experience for all.
