Introducing the Deputy Head Girl Nusy Hussain

Deputy Head Girl

One of my favourite aspects of QM is the sense of community. Seeing the sisterhood amongst each year group was magical. Having the opportunity to board and live with your friends is a great way to create relationships.

My name is Nusy and I’ve been at QM since Year III. Before joining QM, I was homeschooled. Adjusting from the homeschool lifestyle to school life was difficult and a big change, but it's a decision that I will never regret. I joined QM in February of 2020, and after three incredible weeks, the school closed for COVID! This was a tough time for everyone but it showed me just how much I loved QM, as I began to miss school even after being there for such a short amount of time.

I'm currently studying French, Spanish, and Psychology for my A Levels. Languages are something I am extremely passionate about and I knew that I wanted to continue them after GCSE for my A levels. Due to the small class sizes at QM, my relationships with all my teachers are incredible, and I feel truly supported by them whenever I need anything at all. They are always available for a clinic or just a quick chat, and I am truly grateful.

I am currently part of the Netball Club and the Mavericks netball team, which is available for the senior school. Having been a climber for most of my life, trying new sports was something I used to be afraid of. However, the sports teachers at QM help you to pick up any sport, and it is all due to them that I now have such a love for netball! Keeping my fitness levels up is very important to me, which motivated me to start personal training sessions and these are one of the highlights of my week. The lessons are tailored to each individual and are a great opportunity for anyone looking to develop their strength and conditioning. The activities offered at QM are so varied, that everyone has the chance to get involved in something they love.

One of my favourite aspects of QM is the sense of community. Coming from a family of four brothers and no sisters, seeing the sisterhood amongst each year group was magical. Having the opportunity to board and live with your friends is a great way to create relationships. I will always cherish the memories I have made from late-night chats in Cottages, or having a piece of toast in Cafe.

Through my role as Deputy Head Girl, I want to encourage all girls to be confident enough to be themselves. Being in school can be extremely daunting and it can sometimes be too easy to hide within the crowd. When I first came to QM, I was extremely shy. I was scared of talking to strangers and hated speaking in front of other people. QM has helped me to come out of my shell and be confident in myself. It has taught me to have more self-respect and helped me to realise that my opinions and my voice matter. I would not be the person I am today without this school and the support of all the teachers who make it up. I want to represent all those shy, new girls and show them that they can also become who they want to be at QM.
