Dr Samantha Horseman, Director of Music
"This week has really seen QM at it's very best. Whilst nothing can quite beat the spark of a live performance, and recording our ensembles without that final 'last week flurry' of rehearsals has certainly brought some challenges, our musicians have been an inspiration with their resilience, dedication and determination.
It has been a joy to work with them all so closely this week. There is an exciting array of musical items as a result, right through from our inclusive YI and II choir, Cantiamo, to our senior musicians and Chamber Choir. It has been particularly special this year to work on the world premiere of the beautiful Lute-Book Lullaby by Bernard Trafford as part of our carol service.
The Music Department is blessed to have a committed team working alongside the girls, and I must give special recognition this year to Mr Hartley-Stevens, Mr Dearsley, our theatre technician Mr Schneider, and the whole team of visiting music teachers who have really pulled together and supported the girls through the process.
It was great to have our musical staff involved with Mr Fairnington, Mr Grant and Mrs Thomas, and a further thank you must be offered to Peter Coulson and James Draper from Durham Cathedral who were able to join us to sing Tenor and Bass alongside our staff.
So, until we can welcome you back to our live Concerts and High Services safely, please enjoy watching our digital Christmas events as a family, with a glass of something warm and the volume turned up!"
Festival of Lessons and Carols

Join our traditional Christmastime service, interspersed with Christmas carols sung by the Queen Margaret's Chamber Choir.

The first festive event of the year was our Advent Service on Friday 26th November.
This year’s Advent Service was a wonderful opportunity to see our Chamber Choir perform as part of QM’s new series of High Services. It was also a chance to follow the Christian tradition of taking a pause from our busy lives to focus on the preparation for Christmas.
You can view the service below and download the order of service here.
