Writer’s Seal of Approval for Blue Stockings
We can’t think of a more appropriate piece of drama for our girls to have recreated than that of Blue Stockings. Following the story of four young women over one academic year at Girton College, Cambridge, Blue Stockings is a reminder of the fight for education that women had during the 19th century. When their male peers graduated, the women left with nothing but the stigma of being a ‘blue stocking’ – an unnatural, educated woman.
Blue Stockings was this year’s Senior Production and the girls gave compelling, authentic and witty performances. Upon hearing that the QM girls were recreating her play, writer Jessica Swale told the girls to “break a proverbial leg” on Twitter. After seeing some images from the play she added: “This is the most beautiful design of this play that I have ever seen. Well done, it looks exquisite, I hope it’s gone brilliantly”.
Many congratulations to the cast and crew for a superb production, their commitment and the many hours of rehearsals certainly showed in their performances.
We are delighted to announce that this year’s Junior Production will be Jacqueline Wilson’s Hetty Feather. Over 50 girls have auditioned already so it promises to be another incredible play.
