A Midsummer Night's Dream

Published 30th March 2022.

Last Wednesday the curtain went up on four fantastic nights of theatre at QM. The first whole school production for some time, A Midsummer Night's Dream promised to be spectacular, and the cast and crew of girls from across all year groups certainly delivered.

The QM Family was warmly invited to enjoy a sparkling Drinks Reception before each performance, with canapés provided by our Leiths girls. The Estates Team had set the scene outside the Chapman Theatre for them perfectly, with dramatic lighting and acres of ivy.

As the audiences took to their seats, they were wowed by the most incredible set which had been dressed and painted by a backstage crew of girls. Another team of girls worked with Mr Schneider as the sound and lighting technicians during the performances. Many were very excited at the opportunity of getting to go on the gantry!

Under the guidance of Director Mrs Griffin and Assistant Director Mr Fairnington (who helped them to untangle iambic pentameter!), the girls produced an absolutely magical rendition of one of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays.

Mrs Griffin said "I am incredibly proud of the cast and crew of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream.' This has been one of my favourite shows to direct and the cherry on top was being able to work with girls from Years I right up to UVI for the first time at Queen Margaret's. Every rehearsal was full of laughter and determination (and often quite a lot of confusion about the language), but the cast worked so hard to make it engaging for their audience. The backstage crew helped Mr Schneider daily. The talent of those involved was phenomenal and I can't wait to start work on the next production with them all."

The audiences were also full of praise for the girls:

"Absolutely outstanding performance this evening. Well done girls!"

"Last night’s performance was brilliant!"

The Centenary building was buzzing with the sparkling drinks reception each night.

Huge congratulations to Mrs Griffin and Mr Fairnington.
