Romeo and Juliet
Year II and A Level Drama and Theatre Studies students enjoyed a very modern take on Romeo and Juliet at West Yorkshire Playhouse last week. The juniors are studying the play in their English lessons, while for the seniors it is a set text. Both groups and their accompanying teachers enjoyed a vibrant production containing, amongst other things, a really young Juliet, a lovesick Romeo, a female Mercutio, gang fights with knives and, where appropriate, a pulsating disco beat. The girls were part of a full, predominantly schools’, audience whose attention was held from beginning to end.
