The Dynamics

The Dynamics are Queen Margaret’s training orchestra for girls who are currently at approximately Grade 1-3 of the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) standards. The group helps girls develop important ensemble skills such as listening, following a conductor and intonation control. Girls study a wide range of repertoire, from Baroque to Adele, and the girls enjoy being able to reproduce the orchestral favourite they know so well.

While weekly rehearsals occur, we do allow girls to opt out with a termly ‘prep pass’ if they need to excuse themselves from rehearsals to devote adequate time to studies, encouraging the development of independent time management. The group has an incredibly active year, performing at lunchtime concerts, Christmas concerts and shared concerts with other schools in the area. We also hold open rehearsals once a term to encourage tutors and staff to enjoy the girls’ progress. This term, the girls worked towards their Grade 1 Ensemble, a fantastic achievement

We believe that playing an instrument as a musician should always be a positive endeavour; for our girls this is never more possible than when part of a group, experiencing the teamwork needed in music making and sharing in successful performances together. Sectional practices also result in a sense of teambuilding within the ensemble. The group allows girls to develop their own confidence and sense of responsibility to practice their individual parts in order to continue well to the whole rehearsal.
